Introduction

Microsoft Project is a powerful planning tool used to build project plans and to track project progress.  Used to manage project costs, schedules and resources it monitors variance from the baseline plan so that remedial action can be instigated to ensure the project outcomes are delivery on time, in budget, to full scope and specified quality.

 

Objectives

To be able to produce a project plan supported by a Gantt Chart with tasks, durations and resource assignments and to track and adjust project progress against a base plan.

 

Who should go on this course?

Beginners – Students must have previous knowledge of the Windows environment and be familiar with at least one other Microsoft Office Application.  An awareness of project development will be an advantage but is not essential.

· Creating and Saving A Project File And Entering Project Properties

 

Entering and Organising Tasks

· Entering Tasks, Estimating Duration And Creating Sub-Tasks

· Inserting, Deleting And Linking Tasks

· Identifying Milestones, Constraints and Deadlines

· Adjusting Task Relationships, Adding Notes and Hyperlinks

 

Entering Resources

· Setting Up People, Equipment and Material Resources

· Adjusting Work Time for Resources

· Entering Costs And Resource Information

Assigning Resources To Tasks

· Creating and Removing Single And Multiple Resource and Material Assignments

· Scheduling Formula: Duration, Units and Work

· Working with and without Effort-Driven Scheduling

· Adjusting Working Time, Changing Task types and Creating Recurring Tasks

· Critical Path Analysis

 

Sorting, Grouping and Filtering Project Information

· Sorting, Grouping and Filtering Data using a variety of views

 

Formatting the Gantt Chart and Printing Project Information

· Customising and Printing Views and Reports

 

Tracking Progress Against the Project Plan

· Saving a Baseline Project

· Tracking a Project as Scheduled and Entering Completion Percentages

 

Review and Practice

Using their own or given scenarios student will produce project plans supported by Gantt Charts with tasks, durations and resource assignments.

 

Progression

Microsoft Project 2002 – Intermediate Courses. On completion of the Advanced course, students will have covered the Microsoft Office Specialist syllabus for Microsoft Project 2002 Comprehensive.  As a registered Microsoft Office Specialist testing centre we can offer you on-line tests in Microsoft Project 2002 and all Microsoft Office 2000 applications.
